Your sensuality is not my sensuality. Is that OK?

Clearly enough people thought this picture evoked a sense of sexual violence to contact the ASB about it, and clearly enough people at the ASB agreed for the advertisement to be pulled. This isn’t just a couple of prudes getting their hackles up - sexual assault workers and women’s advocates are included among those who made complaints. I may not see this picture as violent or problematic, you may not see it as violent or problematic but others clearly do and their views are as valid as ours - and in some ways more relevant.

A Gentlenerd of Leisure: Our Mental Health System? More Mental than Healthy!

This is the story of one person’s attempt to navigate the labyrinth that is the Australian Mental Health System - particularly detailing their attempt to be given a bed at a private Psychiatric Clinic in Victoria while in a crisis.

The System is Broken. It needs almost as much help as the people who have to rely on it!

To QI & Mr Stephen Fry: Transgender Women Are Not Blokes And Are Not There To "Fool" Anybody

After discussing why the Adam’s apple can’t really be a sign that someone is a man, Mr Fry said that: “Basically, a good ladyboy can imitate almost anything female, in terms of how they hold(?) their legs and you know…anything like that.”

It makes me so sad when Stephen Fry is shit about things - because he’s usually so marvellous!

Push for Marriage Vote in Australia

projectqueer:

Gillard x390 (Getty) I Advocate.com
Prime Minister Julia Gillard of Australia is hearing calls for a conscience vote on marriage equality following a poll that shows the an overwhelming majority supports the move.

According to the The Sydney Morning Herald, “The Galaxy poll for two gay rights groups also found rising support for marriage equality, with 62 per cent of Australians backing reform, up from 60 per cent last year. The release of the polls on Friday marks the launch of a new community campaign for a conscience vote by Australian Marriage Equality and Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG).”

The Greens introduced a marriage equality bill on the first day of the new parliament, and Independent MP Andrew Wilkie supports the proposal. He said he would not withdraw his support for government over the issue, but he would consider a coalition proposal for marriage equality.

The Herald reports that “Ms. Gillard has ruled out giving her MPs a conscience vote on the issue, and said it remains ‘a big if’ as to whether the Greens bill would ever reach the House of Representatives.”

She may be hearing the calls, but she’s doing everything she can to ignore them.

Bitch, please.: To Write Scam On Her Arms.

sugaredvenom:

So who exactly is surprised that it turns out that To Write Love On Her Arms (TWLOHA) are disgusting sexist, homophobic douches who only really exist to scam emo kids into going to church?

I’ve been suspect of these assholes for ages, so I did some research, and it only took me seconds to find…

Premier’s announcement of measures for the GLBTI community forgets the “T” and the “I”

The Premier’s announcement of his Government’s intent to implement measures for the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and intersex (GLBTI) communities in Victoria if re-elected in 2010 fails to adequately address the needs or concerns of Victoria’s gender diverse community (that is, transgender, transsexual and other gender diverse people in Victoria).

Just the other day I had someone on Twitter trying to convince me that the current Government were doing AMAZE things for GLBTIQA people and that I should shut the fuck up, be grateful and vote for them. To be fair, the current government has done some OK things for Gay and Lesbian people (mainly so they can pay more tax and get less welfare) but it’s not exactly shit to be writing home to. The guy ended up flouncing out of our argument, which made me feel VERY satisfied, but I really wish I could have sent this at him too.

What exactly is a dyke, and how are dykes different from other lesbians?

genderqueer:

(Question asked anonymously to Enoch. This is hir answer.)

“Well, I can’t tell you exactly what a dyke is because it’s an identity like any other, and it’s about a personal feeling that a label applies to you. I used to think dyke was a look, a style of dress, and that only lesbians could be dykes. I don’t think that anymore.

To me, the major differences between dykes and lesbians are that a) dykes are not necessarily women and they don’t necessarily date exclusively other women, and b) dykes are queer, community-seeking, focused on woman- or female-solidarity, and are politicized by their queerness. In my experience, lesbian-identified folks are not necessarily community-seeking or political.

I identify as a dyke because of all the reasons I listed above and because I feel very strongly that I relate to womenfolk who I date in a queer female-centered way.”

It doesn’t get better at all.

It just keeps on getting worse.

Stop fucking lying to everyone.
